A Sweet 16 birthday party is a milestone event for a young girl. Sweet 16 parties typically are feminine, frilly affairs, but also can be co-ed. Parents usually host the parties, but friends can sometimes help plan the event.
Location/Theme
Parties with a feminine theme can be held in a spa and each guest can get a treatment such as a manicure, facial or massage. If you have a swimming pool and the birthday falls during warm weather season, a pool party is another fun option. Restaurant banquet rooms are another alternative if your home is too small to host the party.
Food
The menu for the party should match the theme and the birthday girl's favorite foods. A casual outdoor event such as a pool party is perfect for a barbeque. Providing a variety of finger foods or a make-your-own taco station is another easy idea.
If the party takes place in a restaurant banquet room, the restaurant type will determine the food, whether it's pizza or a fancy buffet. For drinks, offer bottled water, sodas and punch. For dessert, cupcakes have become a popular alternative to traditional sheet cakes.
Decorations
Standard decorations for a birthday party include balloons, streamers and cut-outs. Crown the birthday girl with a princess tiara and give the guests feather boas for a festive atmosphere. Party supply stores sell decorations in a many themes, including Hollywood glamour, Hawaiian luau and masquerade balls.
Music
Hire a live DJ or musical act if your budget can handle it. If not, a stereo blasting out the latest hits will work just as well, particularly if you have a designated dance floor for guests to bust a move.
Games
Board games, trivia games and scavenger hunts in the neighborhood are all fun ideas to get guests involved.
Party Favors
Party favors such as nail polish, lip gloss and body splash are always welcome mementos. Give each guest a disposable camera to snap photos to share with each other. Baggies filled with candy, mini-photo albums and jewelry such as bracelets and charms also make good party favors.
