Many California community colleges offer students the experience of dorm living.


Dorm living offers a key experience for thousands of college students, but it isn't exclusive to the university level---community college students also benefit from living at school and California is home to many that provide this opportunity. With amenities common and uncommon, each California community college with dorms offers something a little different, allowing prospective dorm students to choose which atmosphere suits them best.


Feather River College. Quincy, CA


Nestled in pine and oak trees, these two-story apartments exclusive to enrolled students are located a 5-minute walk away from campus. Two people per room are assigned with one- and two-bedroom dorms available. While co-ed living is unavailable here, all dorms feature their own bathroom, kitchen, cable and desk with remodeled units featuring a mini-fridge, freezer and microwave. Fees for the 2009-2010 year equal $4,200 to $4,700.

Lassen College. Susanville, CA


"Live in the center of campus life," promises Lassen College where dorm dwellers can enjoy a common laundry, television lounge and access to a dorm store. Sporting activities such as pool, foosball, and touch football also take place in the game room at the west end of the building. Interested? These dorms will cost $1,350 to $1,680 per semester---meal plans will bring your tab to $2,745 to $3,030 a semester. If a room becomes available and you'd like to have it to yourself, send in a request and an extra $450 a semester.

College of the Redwoods. Eureka, CA


Surrounded by majestic redwoods, these dorms have a lot to offer its students including a meal plan, access to the field house, pool and weight room, as well as free entrance to all college sporting events. Be aware, though; a minimum GPA of 2.5 with 12 units is required of all interested in living in this California community college's dorms.

Reedley College. Reedley, CA


Men and women live separately at Reedley, but they share a common living area that includes a recreation room, computer lab and full kitchen with separate bathroom and laundry provided on each floor. Reedley College assigns two students per room and offers a microwave and refrigerator for rent. Interested students need to maintain a 2.0 GPA and be enrolled in 12 units. Rates for the 2009-2010 school year equal $1,402 to $2,084 per semester with meal plans available for an additional fee.

Shasta College. Redding, CA


Dorm living at this California community college features exclusive dorm parking, basic utilities, laundry facilities, and recently renovated rooms (as of 2007). There is no food program associated with dorm living here, but the cafeteria is available as well as a common kitchen, recreation area, patio and study lounge.

Students have an opportunity to live in co-ed dorms, but no matter which dorm you live in, you have to share bathrooms with another room or building. Call for current prices---the 2009-2010 school year fees totaled $3,350, including a $60/week meal plan

College of the Siskiyous. Weed, CA


This California community college's dorms, known as lodge buildings, are co-ed with fees for the 2009-2010 academic year ranging from $6,000 to just over $10,000 with the cost of food included. The dorms are available on a limited basis during the summer. The college supplies its dorm students with basic needs such as furnished rooms, internet service (available in the lobby), cable TV, custodial services and on-site laundry.

West Hills College---Coalinga. Coalinga, CA


Gordon and Ivans Hall consists of 177 dorms home to single West Hills College students---though be aware: twice as many rooms are available to male students as female. Amenities here include cable television in each room, daily housekeeping, WiFi available in the building, common laundry facilities and a computer and recreation room. Students here must have a 2.0 GPA, carry 12 units and be enrolled in a meal plan.
