Some modern brides want to add a touch of antiquity to their special day, and wedding parasols are a simple way to add a touch of days gone by. Parasols first appeared in America during the Victorian age, when they served as the hallmark of a true lady, protecting the fair complexions that were prized by the women of the day. Today's brides can purchase plain parasols and easily customize them. Instead of having your attendants carry flowers, decorate a parasol for each of them to match her dress. You could also make one for the mothers of the bride and groom.
Instructions
1. Plan your design and sketch it. You can look online to see various styles and designs.
2. Glue your chosen adornments around the edge of the parasol. Ribbon, feathers, strands of beads, lace or artificial flowers all offer a distinct look, are easy to find in craft shops and can be coordinated to match your wedding dress or wedding colors.
3. Paint your new monogram on the top of the parasol with the fabric paint pen. Use a traditional three-letter monogram or just the first letter of your new last name.
4. Allow the parasol to dry completely before collapsing it.
