Poultry Focal point Crafts

Depending on where you live, you can use outdoor fall leaves in your turkey centerpieces.

Display a handcrafted turkey centerpiece during your Thanksgiving holiday dinner. These centerpieces can feature fall leaves, flowers, candles and even handmade turkeys. There are no rules when it comes to these crafts, but you typically want to make an item that stands upright on the middle of the table rather than a flat decoration.

Pumpkin Turkey Centerpiece

The materials needed for this craft are fall leaves, cardboard, pumpkin, candles, a wooden turkey head and paint. If you are not able to find a wooden turkey head, you can make one of your own out of cardboard. Paint your wooden head and neck, or cut one out of cardboard. You can find turkey head shapes and stencils online or at craft stores. Paint your turkey head brown, and allow the paint to dry before painting on features such as the turkey's eyes and beak. Glue the turkey head directly on the front of your pumpkin. The turkey is in a sitting position, so there is no need to make turkey legs.

Cut out a large circle from cardboard that is about 4 inches in diameter larger than the pumpkin. Glue fall leaves on the cardboard circle. Place your turkey pumpkin directly on top of the cardboard base, then glue leaves in layers on the back of the pumpkin to resemble turkey feathers. Place your centerpiece on the middle of the table, and select four fall-colored candles to go around the four corners of your centerpiece.

Turkey Centerpiece Nut Bowl

Find large walnuts like the ones pictured to go in your bowl.

Create a turkey centerpiece that also serves as a nut bowl. The materials needed are yellow, orange, blue and red construction paper along with a red pipe cleaner, glue and a brown paper bag. Roll down the top edges of the paper bag to shorten it down to about 5 inches tall. The bag will look like a small square bowl. Trace your hands on colorful construction paper, and cut these shapes out.

Glue the hands on the back of the bag in layers to resemble the turkey's feathers. Move each layer 1 or more inches up from the other so they are not all even. The idea is to create a scattered feather look.

Cut out an orange turkey head and neck, use a black marker to draw eyes, and cut out a yellow upside-down triangle for the turkey's beak. Glue the beak on and cut your red pipe cleaner down to 3 inches. Curl one end of the pipe cleaner and leave the other end straight. Glue the top of the pipe cleaner's straight part on top of the beak. Cut out a hat for your turkey using blue construction paper, and cut out a yellow strip of paper to glue onto the hat to create a brim. Glue the hat directly on top of the turkey head, and glue the head and neck on the front of the hat. Cut out two boat shapes that are about 3 inches wide from orange construction paper, and glue these shapes on each side of the front of your turkey to resemble large, feathered arms. Fill up the bag with your favorite nuts and place it on the center of your table.

Straw Hat Turkey

Create a turkey centerpiece out of a straw hat. The materials needed are craft foam squares in yellow, brown, orange, red and black, and scissors. You will also need two small black buttons, tacky glue and a straw hat.

Place the straw hat on the table, and glue two button eyes on the protruding round part of the straw hat. Cut out a gobbler and beak for the turkey to create the rest of its face. Use the exterior of the hat brim to build the turkey's body and feathers.

Cut out turkey legs with your yellow craft foam and glue them on the bottom of the craft. Cut out feather shapes with brown, black and red craft foam, and glue them in layers on the top brim of the hat. Use two black foam squares to serve as the turkey's arms. You can also add a black bow as a finishing touch underneath the turkey's face.
