Affordable Wedding Bouquet Ideas

Bridal flowers are traditional in many cultures and religions.

Bridal bouquets and wedding flowers need not be extravagant to be beautiful. There are no set rules about wedding flowers so let your imagination soar to make the most of inexpensive fresh or silk flowers and items readily available at your local craft supply store.

Create Drama with a Minimum of Flowers

Use one or just a few large flowers of the same type or color and wrap the stems with ribbon. Use extra ribbon and let several pieces hang from the bouquet to create drama. Calla lilies, Bird-of-Paradise, roses and giant sunflowers work well for single flower arrangements. A large bunch of inexpensive baby's breath, tied with ribbon makes a pretty statement.

Use Artificial Flowers

Artificial flowers last forever and are readily available in most locations. Planning wedding flowers in advance gives you plenty of time to shop sales and budget your money over time to create the bouquet of your dreams. Artificial flowers work especially well with inexpensive fillers such as crystal or pearl sprays and ribbon.

Go Non-Traditional

Break the rules and be creative using any material you like to make your wedding bouquet special. Instead of a bouquet, try a basket filled with blossoms, baby's breath or rose petals. Consider making your bouquet from fruit, paper fans, artificial butterflies, feathers, paper origami flowers or large green leaves and fronds. Buttons and felt can be used to make whimsical artificial flowers that incorporate a sense of humor and fun. These ideas also work well for bridesmaid's arrangements.

Bridesmaids Bouquets

Bridesmaid's bouquets can be different or alike and may incorporate wedding theme colors. Use smaller, less expensive flowers from the bridal bouquet in single-colored, hand-tied arrangements. Make pomanders using craft foam balls and ribbon; glue artificial flowers on and carry it by the ribbon handle. One single flower with a ribbon on the stem is a nice alternative to a whole bouquet. Nice paper fans or small purses in coordinating colors decorated with flowers are an acceptable alternative and make a nice keepsake afterward.

Make the Most of What is Available

Using seasonal flowers and greenery is a great way to cut costs on wedding flowers. Look for local wildflowers, evergreens, potted plants and paper decorations. Use lots of ribbon, tulle, pearl strands and confetti to fill space and add sparkle. Enlist the help of friends to borrow plants and fresh cut flowers from the garden. Shop sales for inexpensive silk flowers and other fillers.
