Add lava lamps to give a playroom retro appeal.
Green, black and purple may seem to be an unworkable color scheme, but think again. A playroom lends itself to this bold color scheme, and you can use it in a variety of themes, from retro-inspired flower child and vintage neon arcade to futuristic spaceship. Use stripes or other patterns and contrasting trim to make a bold statement. You can convert the room from one theme to another without having to repaint the space.
Flower Child
Make a retro space with overstuffed bean bag chairs, bright lava or glitter lamps and plastic beaded curtains in electric purple, lime green and glossy black. Accent with wooden furniture shaped like daisies in purple and green, shaggy black or purple rugs and funky patterned curtains tied with feather boas in black and lime.
'80s Arcade
Bring neon to a new generation with lime green and purple walls. Use a black chair rail to separate the two colors. Bright geometric shapes highlighted by neon signs, particularly those with your child's name spelled out in bright green or purple, complement the space. Add decals or stencils of classic video game characters to round out the theme.
Alien Invasion
A black ceiling, deep purple walls and little green men create a haven for your future astronaut. Blacklight-reactive paint accents, as well as glow-in-the-dark stars and paints, create an alternative universe when the overhead lights go out. Black furniture accented with silver and chrome recreates a spaceship appeal, while murals of green and purple alien planets add depth to the decor.
