Suggestions For Vintage Wedding ceremonies

Mixing vintage items with contemporary fearlessness creates the ideal look.

After selecting the perfect lacy wedding gown, brides are well on their way to creating a vintage-style ambiance. However, the little details involved can take your wedding from old-fashioned to a perfect amalgamation of contemporary and vintage styles. Begin by sticking to a muted color palette and selecting a venue with a history, such as a museum, stately home or even a garden.

The Bridal Party

Play up your theme in the bridal party for a well-rounded look. The bridesmaids can take your theme to the maximum with pillbox hats, seamed stockings and modest heels. For autumn and winter weddings, add faux fur wraps to their looks; in spring and summer, lace parasols can be a finishing touch. For the groomsmen, there are many vintage-inspired looks to take advantage of. Crisp morning suits befit formal weddings, while muted gray suits are best for informal affairs.

Reception Decorations

Chandeliers make the ultimate vintage-inspired lighting. However, if your space doesn't have access to any, candelabras on the tables work just as well. Large, short-stemmed flowers in vases or mason jars make charming centerpieces. Or, if flowers don't appeal to you, scatter stacks of hat boxes over the tables, each with strings of pearls or ivory feather boas spilling out the top. Use vintage plates in numerous styles to give the tables a charming finish.

Lacy Details

Well-placed lace can enhance the vintage feel of any space. Delicate strands can be used as borders on your wedding invitations or strung through the binding holes on your programs. Other pieces of stationery, such as your place cards and thank you notes, can also get this treatment. Replicate your gown's lace pattern in the icing on your cake for an unexpected twist. Additionally, instead of selecting a traditional veil, wrap a strand of lace around your hairstyle for a shabby chic effect.

Photography

Because your photographer will preserve the memories of your wedding day for the rest of your life, make sure that he is familiar with capturing vintage looks. This is accomplished by using various exposure techniques, lighting and journalistic frames to keep the photos from looking posed. Look through several photographers' portfolios to ensure that you have the best one for creating the muted tones and soft edges required for a vintage wedding.
