How to Design a Room for My Wedding Reception
A wedding reception is a joyous occasion that celebrates the union of two people. Planning a successful wedding reception is all in the details. From color choices to furniture arrangement, the aesthetic qualities of a wedding reception make a lasting impression on the guests. Careful planning and creativity will help you design a wedding reception room that reflects your personality and sense of style.

1. Sketch the dimensions of the wedding reception room. Scale down the actual dimensions of the room to inches for the sketch. Make note of the height and length of doors and which direction they open. Mark the location of windows and restrooms.
2. Select a theme. Create a theme to help guide you along the design process. Themes can be colors, such as pink, or time periods, like the 1950s, or other inspirations, like a fairytale. A theme influences centerpieces, wedding favors, color schemes and other important aspects of the wedding reception.
3. Create space for tables and movement between tables. Traditionally, wedding receptions use round tables. Figure out the number of chairs that can comfortably fit at each table. Sketch enough tables to accommodate all the wedding guests. Leave space for chairs to be pulled out and for people to move around the tables with ease.
4. Select appropriate table linens. Table linens come in many different colors, textures and materials, including silk, lace, cotton and polyester. Select table linens based on the theme, color scheme and level of formality.
5. Sketch the centerpieces. Envision the centerpieces you desire and make a sketch of the final product. Consider the theme of your reception, the height of the centerpieces and the color scheme. A traditional centerpiece, such as tall flowers in a vase, is one option. Non-traditional items such as lights, feathers and other festive accessories are also possibilities.
6. Create space for a dance floor and band. Most wedding receptions include dancing. Sketch space for not only the dance floor, but also the entertainment, whether that is a DJ or a live band.
7. Arrange the sweetheart table or head table as the focal point of the room. A sweetheart table is a table just for the bride and groom. A head table consists of the bride, groom and the entire wedding party. According to The Knot, it can also include parents, grandparents and other people who are close to the bride and groom, but not in the wedding party.
