How You Can Curl Or Twist Leather Fringe

Easily create your desired twisted effect.

Leather fringe is a staple of Native American-style clothing, most typically as embellishments on jackets, boots and purses. Native American dancers also carry pieces made with twisted leather fringe, such as fans and rattles. If you prefer the worn, natural look of leather fringe that is twisted or curled, it is easier to achieve than you might think. Because leather is so pliable, you can add moisture to change its shape and size.

Instructions

1. Soak a large, soft sponge with water.

2. Rub the sponge firmly over the fringe. Make the leather wet, but not soaked.

3. Put your finger on the base of the fringe and pull one of the strips taut with your other hand. If you have a large bundle of fringe, place a heavy object at the base. Twist each piece of fringe tightly. Hold it taut for seven to 10 seconds, release the tension and move onto the next one.

4. Allow to dry for at least two hours.
