Wedding Flower Styles

Wedding Flower Styles

Choosing flowers for your wedding is a daunting task, no matter how large or small the celebration. There are many different types of flowers, and like everything else with your wedding, you want it to reflect your personal taste and style. Scout what flowers will be in season during your wedding and let nature inspire you. Take elements from your personal style and choose vases, ribbons and other accessories to take the flowers to new heights.

Glamorous

If you're the girl that's always on the go, loves bling and partying, go for a glamorous feel in your wedding flowers. Bright colors like hot pink and turquoise stand out, especially when adorned with glam extras. Have your florist implement textured ribbon, crystals or feathers to add pizazz to your floral arrangements. For centerpieces, you want something that makes a statement, so go for tall, vertical vases with loads of flowers to create a grand, overflowing effect. Cala lillies, tulips and roses are great picks for a glamorous wedding-flower style.

Romantic

Romance is definitely in the air on your wedding day, so reflect that in your wedding-flower style. Cabbage roses, peonies and iris all make fantastic choices for a romantic wedding-flower style, as they all boast a frothy texture that will add a lightness and feminine feel to the venue. Instead of going for floral arrangements for centerpieces, opt for candles as centerpieces and a table with a sprinkle of rose petals. Rent arches for doorways, which can be covered in flowers for a romantic feel. Keep colors elegant with rich burgundy, pink, purple and ivory.

Classic

Create a classic day with a classic wedding-flower style. This timeless look will be great in pictures for years to come. Classic wedding flowers include gardenias, roses and hydrangea, which can be bundled for short, tight arrangements. Centerpieces should be shallow with an abundance of flowers for a stylish look that creates a classic silhouette. Stick to pastel hues like cream, pale yellow and pink.

Modern

Modern wedding-flower style is a popular route to take when choosing flowers. The sleek, vertical flower arrangements make any venue instantly look upscale and trendy. Orchids, tulips and bare-stemmed bouquets are excellent flowers for a modern wedding-flower arrangement. Vases for centerpieces should boast bold color or be completely clear with clean water. Remember to keep with the minimalist, modern vibe and put no more than two to three flowers in a single bouquet or arrangement.

Beach/Outdoor

If you're having a wedding at a beach or garden, implement colors of nature throughout the party spot. Lilies of the valley, dahlias and daisies are a sweet touch for any outdoor celebration. Instead of your basic vase, put flowers in metal pails, glass mason jars or leave them strewn about tables (in a strategic way, of course). If it's a beach wedding, you can also sprinkle seashells on tables. If it's an outdoor event in the fall, go for earthy-colored fruit like dark-red apples, small pumpkins and green and yellow pears in glass bowls, adorned with a few flowers. Take the easy feel to your bouquet by wrapping it with raffia for a chic, undone vibe.
