How You Can Keep Wild Wild birds From Aviary

Aviaries provide an ideal environment for large domestic birds.

Keeping an outdoor aviary is common for hobbyist bird keepers and professional breeders. Aviaries are beneficial for the birds as well, allowing them flight and a natural outdoor environment. However, aviaries also bring their own risk. The birds and food supply attract wild birds, who may be carrying dangerous disease and organisms. According to the University of Florida, approximately one percent of wild birds carry Psittacosis, which can create rampant illness and death throughout the aviary. Protect your treasured pets by keeping wild birds away from the aviary.

Instructions

1. Remove any duck ponds or bird feeders. The Agriculture Department warns against having anything that may attract wild birds to your property. Place the aviary away from trees and long branches where wild birds may congregate.

2. Construct a roof over the top of the aviary. Ensure that food and water containers are covered. Unprotected aviaries are vulnerable to wild bird droppings that can spread disease.

3. Enclose the aviary with screen netting to keep wild birds and their feathers and dander away from pet birds. The Bird Channel advises bird keepers to place the netting at least four inches away from aviary cage to prevent birds from tearing it.
