Instructions
1. Gather sketches and paintings of a phoenix--either through a search engine or in books--to reference while drawing. Choose pictures depicting the phoenix in various positions and colors.
2. Practice drawing all the parts of the phoenix: the head, neck, wings, body, feathers, eyes and talons. Sketch the body parts from different angles and practice drawing the parts to scale. Also, work on the flames that surround the bird.
3. Draw a rough sketch of a complete phoenix. Rework the different parts of the phoenix as needed until the desired outcome is achieved.
4. Darken the outlines of the completed phoenix.
5. Fill in the details of the bird's features, creating texture in the feathers, feet and talons. Add the flames.
6. Color and shade in all the areas of the phoenix and the background. Add swirls around the phoenix to imply motion, if desired.
