You can make a handmade kids costume with craft supplies.
Children often enjoy dressing up in costumes for Halloween, school presentations, or simply for pretend play. Instead of buying costumes from a department or costume store,which can be quite costly, it can be more exciting to create unique, handmade costumes from craft materials and items that can be found around the house.
Puffy Bird Costume
A puffy bird costume is a whimsical and unique way to dress up for Halloween or a class play. To make a puffy bird costume, insert a leotard inside a larger-sized leotard, and sew around the leg and arm holes to connect them together. Stuff cotton batting inside the neck hole to fill the middle, then sew around the neck hole to connect them together. Wrap a colorful feather boa around the leotard, pinning it down with safety pins. Glue colorful feathers to the arms of the leotard. Wear with a bird beak mask.
Robot Costume
Robot costumes can be as unique as their creators. Simply collect different large cardboard boxes, and spray paint them with metallic spray paint. Allow the paint to dry completely. Tape the boxes on top of each other with duct tape. Spray paint items found around the house, such as wooden spoons, excess dryer venting duct, clothes pins or buttons. Glue the items around the boxes to resemble the mechanical workings of the robot. Cut out arm holes and a head hole, then slip the box structure over your head.
Flower Costume
Even if you have a dozen children to dress in costume, you will still have a wide variety to choose from if making unique flower costumes. To make a flower costume, cut out 6 large petals from crepe paper each measuring 12 inches long. Use your hands to curl up the edges of the flower petals. Glue one end of each flower petal together with the other petals to form a flower. Allow the glue to dry. Press your fist into the middle of the flower to form the shape into a flower hat that can be worn with a leotard, tulle skirt and ballet slippers.
