Steps To Make A Crown For Any Kid To Put on

Homemade crowns can be decorated with all kinds of embellishments.

If a child wants to dress up for a costume party as a king or queen, or a prince or princess, he will need a crown to complete his costume. Crowns can be made simply and inexpensively at home with a few basic crafts supplies. Young children may need assistance to make the basic crown, but will be able to get involved with decorating and embellishing it.

Instructions

1. Measure around the child's head. Cut a long rectangle of card stock to that measurement, plus 2 inches.

2. Cut one long side of the rectangle to points or another fancy pattern. Use scissors with a patterned cutting edge for a more ornate and professional finish.

3. Wrap the length of card around the child's head to check for his size. Staple or tape it in position.

4. Have the child decorate the crown by using white craft glue to add gold braid trim to the bottom edge of the crown.

5. Provide a variety of decorative materials for the child to choose from to decorate the crown, such as feathers, sequins, buttons and stick-on gems.

6. Finish by adding swirls of white craft glue and sprinkling them with glitter. Shake off any excess on a sheet of newspaper.
