Steps To Make A Margarita Cup Glamorous

Dress up a plain margarita glass with a few simple tricks.

If you're looking for a gift for a margarita lover or a way to make a birthday girl or bride's glass more glamorous for a party, decorating a margarita glass is a simple, personalized craft project. You also can decorate margarita glasses for a special party; this helps guests tell their glasses apart and adds a festive touch to your glassware. If you don't have time to make glasses for everyone, let your guests decorate their own glasses as a party activity.

Instructions

1. Purchase inexpensive margarita glasses to decorate. You don't want to use pricey or easily breakable glasses when crafting. Wash and dry the glasses before decorating them.

2. Visit an arts and crafts store and buy glass paint, ribbon and other accessories as desired. Glass-paint markers are the easiest to work with, but any glass paint can be applied with a paint brush. Select durable "bake on" paint; this allows you to bake the glass after it is done so the paint adheres to the glass and will stay on through washings.

3. Using the paint, draw designs on the glass, write a special birthday or wedding message or add the recipient's name or initials.

4. Place your glass in a cool oven. Set the oven to the temperature required for your specific brand of glass paint. Bake it as per the package instructions. Let your glass cool off before removing it.

5. Add feathers, ribbon or a wine charm to the stem for a finishing touch once the glass has cooled. Remove these decorations after each time the glass is used so it can be washed.

6. Add margarita salt or cocktail sugar to dress up the rim of the glass if you're going to use it right away. Cut a lime or lemon and rub it along the rim of the glass so the sugar or salt will stick to it. Next, pour the sugar or salt on a large dish or platter; use about 1/8 to 1/4 inch of sugar or salt. Dip the edge of the rim and twirl it so the glass is covered in salt or sugar all the way around. Fill the glass with a margarita and enjoy.
