Aqua & Red-colored Wedding Styles & Ideas

Combining aqua and red tones and colors for a wedding theme is a bold, but decisive choice. The bright colors add a splash of levity to the proceedings, and they both pair well with traditional white and black colors. The trick with combining aqua and red is to make sure that the color palette does not become overwhelming. Adding in small splashes of aqua or red, or toning down the shades and brightness of the colors will go a long way in making sure your color schematic stays fresh, vibrant and chic.

Go Pastel

Using pastel shades of aqua and red is a simple method of maintaining the contrast of the two colors, without having either of them becoming too overwhelming. When aqua and red tones are muted as pastels, they combine very well together. The two colors give decorations and other sundry items a sense of warmth and a cosmopolitan air. Try having certain wedding items in one color, and others in the second color -- and only combining the two colors for specific or important items. For example, wedding favors can be placed inside a muted aqua colored paper bag. In turn, the place card settings can be done in a pastel shade of rose, and the reception chairs can be decorated with a combination of white and aqua ribbons and pastel pink flowers.

Beach Theme

Aqua and red are two bright colors that immediately bring to mind summer time fun and of course, the beach. Having a beach themed wedding -- whether it takes place on a beach or not -- is easily done by using the brightest shades of aqua and red to lend an extra degree of festivity to your wedding. Use variations on the color red to play up the exotic nature of the color combination. Hibiscus flowers would be an unconventional choice in wedding flowers, but would fit very well with the exotic and bright colored theme of a beach wedding. Using turquoise jewelery as accents is another way of emphasizing the tropical theme.

Parisian Cabaret

Classic in turn-of-the-century Paris, the combination of aqua and red tones and shades conjures up visions of cabarets and speakeasies. Have a mildly cabaret-like influence on your wedding theme by using layers of turquoise with burgundy in fringes, richly textured fabrics, and softer, looser arrangements of flowers. Presenting your aqua and red theme in a Parisian style means making your decor seem effortless and natural, while still maintaining an aura of luxury. You can achieve this by highlighting small details such as using pressed velvet or velour for fabric coverings, and even adding in ostrich feathers into your centerpieces.

Sparkling and Metallic

Aqua and red both combine beautifully with sparkling or metallic items. Both colors can be combined with silver or platinum metallics as well as with gold or bronze metallics. The combination depends on the overall effect you would like to give your guests. Using metallic-colored berry sprays and ribbons as accent points, the metallics add an extra layer of sparkle to your decorations, while also keeping the overall brightness of the color palette in check. Another more neutral option that would go well with both colors is using tiny crystals as accents, rather than a metallic. The clear brilliance of crystals provides as a neutral toned sparkle to your wedding decor.
