Dressup Suggestions For Family Reading through Evening

You can also simply wear your favorite outfit for family reading night.

Capture your child's imagination and sense of adventure by dressing up for family reading night. Designate one night per week to read three or more books that fall into a specific category. For instance, you can choose fairy tale themed books for one night and then read nursery rhymes another night. Dressing up as the characters in the book sets this night apart from all other nights throughout the week.

Western Reading Night

Dress up like a cowboy before digging into some good Western stories.

Dress up like cowboys on Western reading night. Choose a handful of your favorite Western children's books and help everyone dress up before the big night. You can also bake cookies featuring shapes like cowboy hats and sheriff stars.

These types of outfits are easy to find, and you may even have a few Western outfits around your house already. Collect cowboy hats, toy guns and other Western shirts and jeans for the big event. Your son might even like to wear his favorite cowboy boots. Buy sheriff stars that pin on their shirts and look for other Western accessories at a local Western supply shop or party supply store.

Fairy Night

Find lily pad shaped rugs or pillows for your children to lay down on during fairy tale reading night. You can find these online or in some department stores. Buy fairy wings and other fairy princess style outfits. If you have a mix of boys and girls, you can ask the boys to dress up as princes in their favorite outfits. Look for fairy jewelry, wands and other accessories to complete your children's outfits, and dress up yourself if you can find an adult fairy costume.

Disney Characters

Dressing up like Disney characters on family reading night is exciting because there are so many costumes to choose from. You can find Disney costumes online, in department stores or at local costume stores. Ask your kids to dress up like the characters featured in their favorite book. Adults can even dress up like grown-up cartoon characters, such as Snow White or Cinderella. Disney costumes for little girls are also easy to find and your daughter may already have a closet full of these outfits. Buy shoes and accessories, such as pearls and hair bows to match the costumes.
