People who are passionate about helping others often pursue a career in health care. Sadly, many nurses have to bear the burden of high tuition bills or student loans, which can cause them to delay school in order to save up more money. Thankfully, there are a number of grants and financial aid programs that can be of benefit to nurses or nurses-in-training. If you or someone you know is studying nursing in California, these tactics can help them secure grant money for their education.

1. Inquire with your college's financial aid office or department of nursing office about grant programs specific to your college or programs open only to nursing majors.
2. Consider grants targeted specifically at women furthering their education. The majority of nurses are female, making these types of grants a good fit for most people studying to become a nurse. One such grant program is the Career Development Grant offered by the AAUW, which provides $2,000 to $12,000 to qualified applicants.
3. Review grants that you may be eligible for due to your ethnicity. For example, numerous grants for nurses are offered by the National Black Nurses Association and National Association of Hispanic Nurses.
4. Contact California-specific grant sources. One such grant program is the Health Professions Education Foundation Registered Nurse Education Fund, which supports nursing students who are enrolled full- or part-time in a pre-nursing, associate degree or BSN program at an accredited school in California.
