Make custom hair accessories for your wedding.
Take the DIY approach and make your "something new" accessory to wear on your wedding day. By making your own bridal hair clips or hair combs, you decide exactly how they look -- what types of flowers to include, how big they will be and the embellishments that go with them. You need only take a trip to the craft store to find the things you need for your homemade wedding accessories, and you can also make matching hair clips or combs for your bridesmaids.
Instructions
1. Measure and cut a piece of 26-gauge wire to 6 inches long, and bend 1/8 inch at one end of the wire into a loop.
2. String 1/8-inch-wide faux pearl beads onto the string until you have 1/2-inch of bare wire left at the end. Bend this end into a loop like you did at the other end, and leave about 1/4-inch of bare wire below the loop.
3. Form the beaded wire into a bow shape by making two loops with the loose ends twisted together below the loops.
4. Apply a pea-sized amount of hot glue onto the middle of the wide end of the alligator hair clip, or the solid end of the hair comb. Press a white boa feather onto the glue, with the blunt end of a pen, to avoid getting burned by the glue. Wait 10 minutes for the glue to cool. The boa feather hides the rest of the hair clip or comb so you only see the decorative part on your hair.
5. Dab another small pea-sized amount of hot glue to the middle of the feather, and press the middle of the beaded bow to the glue. Wait another 10 minutes.
6. Glue the back of a white fabric rose, gardenia or orchid to the middle of the beaded bow and wait 10 minutes for the glue to harden. Apply a pinhead-sized amount of hot glue to the middle of the flower, and press a 1/4-inch-wide crystal rhinestone onto the glue. Wait 20 minutes before trying on the bridal hair accessory.
