Red-colored Hat Easter time Basket Ideas

Red Hat Easter baskets and gifts are treasured by women over the age of 50.

The Red Hat Society was formed as a result of Sue Ellen Cooper giving her friend Linda Murphy a used red hat as well as an inspirational poem about older women wearing red and purple. The Society was formed in 2000 and has grown to an international club for women aged 50 and older. Fancy hats have been a part of the Easter tradition since the 1880s. Red Hat Easter baskets and gifts fit in well with the Easter holiday.

Baskets

The Easter basket is typically a colorfully decorated basket. Red hats by themselves make fancy baskets. Turn a red hat upside-down and fill it with Easter gifts. Consider filling a plain red hat with embellishments for the basket recipient to use for decorating the hat herself. Some embellishment ideas include red or purple feathers, boas, ribbons and official Red Hat pins. Stuff inexpensive small red hats for inexpensive Easter baskets, especially if giving to several friends. Tea cups are also appropriate for Easter giving, as the Red Hat ladies often hold "tea parties" for their meetings or special events. A bag, large or small makes a creative basket idea. Use a small red or purple purse or a large red or purple tote bag for a gift. Red shoe-shaped planters will also work for a smaller basket idea.

Basket Stuffers

Red Hat Society gifts are abundant in gift and card shops, discount and department stores and online. Stuff a basket with a toy bear wearing a red hat. Buy some new or used outrageous jewelry in red or purple. The more jewelry a Red Hatter wears, the more she stands out. Purchase some collectible Red Hat Lady figures. Put some teabags, teabag holders, small tongs, cups and saucers and sugar cubes in a basket. Other popular gifts include printed socks, scarves, slippers and jewel-laden sunglasses. Also think about giving some practical gifts such as stationary and pens, kitchen or bath items and car accessories. Just remember to buy purple or red items. Gifts of sachets and perfumes fit the Red Hat humor that insinuates older women wear too much fragrance. Gloves are also mentioned in the poem "Warning" by Jenny Joseph. Put one or more pairs of gaudy red or purple gloves in with other basket items. You may also want to include the printed poem and place it inside a red picture frame.

Treats

Make some candy bar wrappers with a computer card-creator to cover a friend's favorite candy bars. Red Hat, high-heeled shoes and purple dress-shaped cookies are available at bakeries and in gift and grocery stores. Sugar cubes with red hat symbols tinted on the sides are available in many shops.

Gift Cards

Attach a Red Hat Easter card or gift tag to the basket. Cards and gift tags with Red Hat designs and humorous slogans are available at most greeting card stores or sections in a grocery or discount store. Consider an edible greeting card to attach to the basket. Attach a Red Hatter's key chain or bracelet to the basket in place of a card.
