How You Can Tie A Dreamcatcher

Make your own dream catchers by learning how to tie them.

You can easily make your own dream catcher using a few simple materials. You need to use a special wrapping and tying technique and work carefully. The Native American legend behind dream catchers is that if you hang it above your bed, the bad dreams will be caught in the web and the good dreams will filter down through the feather.

Instructions

1. Tie a 2-inch loop at the end of a roll of string and tie the base of the loop tightly around a wood or plastic hoop. The hoop should be about 12 inches in diameter and no more than 1/2-inch thick.

2. Move about 2 to 3 inches down, wrapping the string around once and feeding it through the loop you create. Keep repeating this loop around the hoop evenly and tightly every 2 to 3 inches. End this first round of stitches about 1/2 inch from the loop you made at the top.

3. Wrap the string once around the middle of the first 2 to 3 inch length of string between the first two wraps you made in the first round. Pull the string tight and move on to the middle of the next 2 to 3 inches of string between the second and third wraps you made in the first round. Repeat this process until you reach the top once again and continue on with the third round and so on until you have a small hole in the center of the hoop.

4. Tie off the end of the string tightly on the string at the bottom of the hole in the center of the hoop. Let the string dangle down about 8 inches and cut off the excess. Attach the end of a feather to the end of the hanging string to finish the dream catcher.
