Thanksgiving Crafts & Ideas

Celebrate with Thanksgiving colors.

Thanksgiving crafts feature rich colors of the fall harvest. The spectrum of gold, green, yellow and auburn are seen across the landscape during this time of year. Crafts highlight these colors and showcase other thanksgiving themes, such as Thanksgiving turkeys, pilgrims and family meal time.

Treat Holder

The Thanksgiving treat holder is a decoration that serves as a functional item on Thanksgiving. The materials needed are small terracotta pots, glue and plastic eyes, as well as craft foam sheets in orange, red and yellow. The sheets can be cut out into shapes resembling feathers and glued on the back of the pot. Then, glue a brown oval shaped turkey head with the eyes on the front of the pot. Fill the pot with a candle and place this item on a table or mantle as a decoration.

Thanksgiving Place Mats

Thanksgiving place mats are ideal for an informal Thanksgiving dinner. The materials needed are orange, green and yellow card stock, and colored pencils. Draw a leaf border around the mat using various autumn colors. Draw any Thanksgiving symbol you desire in the middle of the mat, such as a turkey, pilgrim or pumpkins.

Framed Hand Print Turkey

The framed hand print turkey is a simple yet festive craft for Thanksgiving. Using paint, paper plates, scissors and glue, paint a paper plate yellow, orange or another autumn color. Then cut out squares from several different colors of construction paper and glue them along the edge of the paper plate as decorations.

After this is complete, paint your palm and thumb brown and your other fingers different colors, such as green, red and orange. Stamp your hand on the plate before the paint dries. Then, paint eyes and legs on the "turkey" you stamped. The plate can be placed on the mantle or refrigerator as a festive Thanksgiving decoration. This is a simple craft that kids can do as well.
