Tea Party Birthday Games
Throwing a tea-party-themed birthday is likely to be a hit with young girls. Besides serving tea and dainty treats, you may want to organize some games to fill the time. Tea party birthday games should incorporate the theme and help the guests work out some of their energy while having fun.
Fashion Show
Throw a fashion show as party of the tea party games. Provide a large container of dress-up clothes for the guests to choose from, including hats, feather boas, secondhand dresses and costume jewelry. Allow the girls to dress themselves; draw names to determine the order in which they will choose their outfits if you anticipate bickering. Then, have each girl walk into the center of the room or down a flight of stairs, showing off her best model moves. Announce the details of the girl's outfit as she struts her stuff.
In the end, award each participant with a small trophy, prize ribbon or bouquet for her unique efforts. Prize categories can include awards like best dressed, most beautiful smile and best modeling.
Sugar Cube Stacks
Sugar cube stacks is a low-key indoor tea party birthday game because it doesn't require much space. Give each guest about 20 sugar cubes, and set a timer for 60 seconds. When the timer starts, the participants must build the tallest tower out of sugar cubes that they can within one minute. The girl who stacks the most sugar cubes wins.
Telephone
This game is also a good indoor activity for a tea-party-themed birthday. Sit the guests in a circle around the table or on the floor. Have the birthday girl whisper a short message into the ear of the guest on her left. Continue the chain in a clockwise fashion all the way around the circle until it reaches the birthday girl again. The final person should say the message she received out loud, and then the birthday girl can state the original message. It's fun to see how the message changes as it's repeated.
Place Setting Race
To start this tea party game, divide the girls into teams of two to four people. Give each team a basket containing items for a tea party place setting, including a teacup, saucer, plate, tablecloth and napkin. Line up the girls at one end of the room and a row of individual tables (one for each team) at the other end of the room. When you signal for the game to begin, have the guests run to their respective tables and set them with the place settings. The team that completes the task the fastest wins.
You may want to do a demonstration round first where you show the participants exactly how the table should be set. Also, if the teams are larger, including more than one place setting in each basket is a good way to make the game last longer. It's best to use plastic dishes for this race to avoid the possibility of items breaking.
Spoon Race
A spoon race is a tea party game that requires quite a bit of space, so it's best reserved for outdoor affairs. Set up a starting line about 20 feet from a row of folding chairs, and line up each girl across from a chair. Hand each guest a spoon and a sugar cube. The participants must place the cubes in their spoons and, holding the spoons out in front of them, race from the starting line, around their chairs and back to the starting line without dropping the sugar. The first to complete the race successfully wins.
