Painting Hands To Appear Like Creatures

Painting hands to resemble animals will keep your kids entertained and happy.

Hand painting, face painting and other body painting crafts are designed to keep your kids engaged and entertained. While professional artists, such as Guido Daniele, have created lifelike representations of animals on hands, simplified versions of these paintings can be created by you and your kids with body paint and some creativity.

Animal Ideas

If you are painting your hands to look like animals, choose animals that complement the shapes and sizes of your hands and arms. Colorful birds with beaks, such as toucans and owls, will stand out on your hands and arms. You can paint your fingers to be the beaks of the birds. Or alternatively, use your fingers as a bird's tail feathers and your thumb as its face. If you decide to paint an elephant, the wrinkles and pores of your skin will accurately convey the texture of a real elephant. In addition, use your fingers to simulate the tusks and trunk.

Techniques

The technique you and your children use to paint your hands will depend on the level of detail and precision you are looking for. If your kids simply want to have fun with paint, put a series of different paint colors on plates. From here, have your children identify the color of an animal they like. Then have them cover their hands in the paint. Ask them to use their hands to act like the animal, making animal noises and motions. If your kids prefer a more detailed approach, give them small paintbrushes so they can draw in the details of each animal.

Professional Hand Painting

While hand painting is traditionally a recreational activity, certain artists have taken the art form to hyper-realistic levels. Using myriad colors and paints, professional hand painting creates detailed images of animals. Highlighting the fur and familiar curves of cats and dogs and the eyes and skin of alligators, professional artists who paint hands like animals attempt to capture realism with their work. These hand paintings are often photographed, the prints of which are then sold by the artists.

Caution

While hand painting is a fun and exciting activity, take proper caution when painting with your kids. Prior to painting, make sure that the paint you have purchased is 100 percent nontoxic. Any paints made for canvases or paints that contain lead should not be used on the skin. If your skin has excessive contact with harmful paint, wash repeatedly with a washcloth to remove the paint. If a rash or irritation persists, seek medical attention.
