Host a fun little girl makeover birthday party.
A makeover party is a perfect idea for an extra-special party that the birthday girl will remember. Little girls love dressing up and play-acting within the glittery fantasy world of grown-up fashion, and with a makeover party you will not be at a loss for activities to keep the birthday girls and guests busy and having fun being glamorous.
Invitations
Whether for little girls or grown-up women who are still little girls at heart, the fun of having or watching a makeover is the idea of transformation. Incorporate this theme into your party invitations by taking "before" and "after" pictures of the birthday girl. She'll have fun dressing up in dirty clothes and messing up her hair for the before photo and then getting into her glamorous movie star best in a dress with sunglasses and a feather boa. Get some construction paper from the craft store and cut it out so that it will fit in an envelope when folded, then paste the "before" photo on the front of the invitation and the "after" photo inside. Let guests know the theme of the party in the invitation by using wording like "You are invited to my makeover birthday party. Come and be transformed!" Then write the party details on the interior side you didn't use and decorate the invitation with glitter. Get Mom or the birthday girl to put a few lipstick kiss imprints on the envelope for an added touch.
Decorations and Treats
Decorations for a makeover party should emphasize fashion, glamor and femininity. Use colors like pink, white, purple and silver for balloons and streamers. You can also get the birthday girl to help you decorate by making a fashion collage using a child's fashion memory board in pink or purple (found at department and toy stores). Older girls can cut images out of teen fashion magazines, while a younger girl could color pictures of Barbie to put up. Later, photos of her and her friends from the fashion show portion of the party can be added as a birthday keepsake. Put out bowls of pink and white jelly beans, silver-wrapped Hershey's kisses, candy hearts and "hot lips" candy. For a healthy treat that works with the colors and theme, make a fruit salad and serve it in a cut watermelon bowl, which can also serve as party table centerpiece. As for the birthday cake, a makeup-bag cake works perfectly with this theme.
Activities
The main activities of a makeover party will, of course, be the makeover and the fashion show. Set up areas where the "beauticians" can do the girls' hair and nails. Provide different colors of nail polish for the girls to select from and maybe some kids' nail stickers and lots of fancy hair clips for the hairdos. Enlist some older girls who the little ones will look up to as fashion authorities, such as nieces, young aunts, older sisters, neighbors and babysitters to provide the makeovers. For the fashion show, you can either specify on the invitation that the girls come dressed up in their finest or provide a decorated box or rack of glamor dress-up clothes with items like dollar store boas and tiaras and old shawls, skirts, blouses, dresses, high heels and handbags. Use a few pins to help the clothes fit better. Snap photos or even take a video as the girls walk down the "runaway," which you can improvise with a long piece of fabric. Finally, make sure that the guests get an "after" photo to take home with them. If you don't have a digital camera or the ability to print digital photos at home, get someone (maybe an antsy Dad) to run out to a one-hour printing service while the party is going on.
