Making crafts with your child is a great way to nurture creativity and make decorations that will be treasured for years to come. According to the University of Missouri, painting allows children to plan and make decisions about color and form, and it provides children with an opportunity to work on their own. When crafting with toddlers, it's a good idea to pre-cut paper into desired shapes and allow your child to paste and paint without having to use sharp items. Turkey crafts are fun and appropriate for all fall and winter holidays.
Hand Turkey
Trace your child's hand on a piece of colored construction paper, thumb pointed away from the rest of the fingers. The thumb will be the turkey's head and the rest of the fingers the turkey tail. Ask your toddler to draw in legs and a face and to color the tail and body with crayons.
Leaf Turkey
Collect leaves from the neighborhood. Use large colorful fall leaves. Paste leaves onto a circle cut out of colored oak tag. The leaves are the turkey's tail. The circle is the body. Paste a smaller circle for the turkey's head and use pipe cleaners for feet. Ask your toddler to draw in a turkey face and wings with crayons.
Finger Paint and Feather Turkey
Find some feathers for the turkey's tail. Have your child make a handprint on paper using finger paint. Set it to dry. After the handprint is dry, glue on a feather tail and have your child add feet and a face with finger paint or crayons.
