Poultry Magnet Crafts For Kids

Model your turkey magnets after the real animal.

Turkey crafts keep kids entertained and the house decorated during the Thanksgiving season. Turkey magnet crafts add a festive touch to the refrigerator. The turkey magnet crafts work well at home or in a classroom as a themed art project. Craft stores sell round magnets that you can glue to the back of the crafts. Another option is magnet tape. It is long magnet in a roll with an adhesive back. Take off the backer to reveal the adhesive area.

Juice Lid Turkey

A metal juice lid creates the body for this turkey magnet craft, making it an environmentally friendly recycled craft. Clean the juice lid thoroughly to make sure no sticky juice remnants remain. Trace around the juice lid onto a piece of brown felt, craft foam or construction paper. Cut out the circle and glue it to the lid. Cut out the turkey's head, neck and legs from the same material. Glue the pieces to the front of the turkey's body. Turn the lid over. Hot glue colorful craft feathers along the back side so they stick up above the juice lid. Create a fan shape around the top edge of the turkey. Attach the selected magnet to the back side of the juice lid. You may need two magnets because of the weight of the juice lid.

Pine Cone Body

The pine cone turkey is a classic Thanksgiving craft. Add a twist to it by turning it into a Thanksgiving magnet. Look for a pine cone that is a similar circumference from the top to bottom so it is easier to hang on the refrigerator. Glue wiggly eyes onto the pine cone. Add a craft foam beak and wattle to the pine cone. Twist two orange pipe cleaners into turkey feet shapes. Twist them around the bottom of the pine cone or hot glue them on. Glue fall leaves to the back of the pine cone to create the feathers. You can use artificial fall leaves from the craft store if you want it to last longer. Attach the magnet to the back side.

Wood Shapes

Wood shapes that you find at craft stores can transform into a turkey magnet. For each turkey you'll need a large heart, small heart and a small oval. The large heart is painted brown and turned upside down to the body. The small heart is painted red and turned upside down as the wattle. Glue it near the top of the large heart. Paint the oval brown for the turkey's head. Glue it on top of the wattle. Craft sticks painted orange create the legs. Colorful craft feathers glued to the back side of the turkey finish off the decorative elements of the turkey. Add the magnet and it is ready to hang.

Note Holder

This turkey magnet is as functional as it is festive. Cut out a turkey shape from craft foam. Add the head, wattle, legs and other details. Cut out feathers from different colors of craft foam. Attach them to the back side of the turkey. Hot glue the completed turkey to a clamp-style clothespin hiding the clothespin with the turkey. Attach a magnet to the opposite side of the clothespin. The magnet looks like a turkey, but you can open the clothespin and place cards or lists inside.
