Suggestions For Glass Bowls At Wedding ceremonies

Use glass bowls to hold wedding favors or incorporate them into the favors.

The versatility of clear or colored glass bowls makes them appealing decorative elements for a wedding--- from vases and centerpieces to displays for programs and favors. Use large clear bowls at the head table and smaller versions at individual tables, or fill clusters of small glass bowls with mints, nuts or candies. Add charm to outdoor weddings with bowls of birdseed for guests to scatter, or place pieces of fruit in shallow bowls at children's tables.

Centerpieces

The easiest way to use glass bowls in your wedding decor is as centerpieces; incorporate bowls as vases, candleholders, globes or pedestals. Fill with colored water and floating candles, or put battery-operated lights inside colored gel filler for a phenomenal glow. Shallow glass bowls filled with flower blossoms and pebbles are idea for smaller tables and facilitate conversation, while a large glass bowl on a pedestal creates a multi-layered centerpiece that cascades over guests. Nonfloral centerpieces, such as Christmas ornaments, sea glass, feathers or candles mixed with battery-operated twinkle lights and LED candles, add indirect lighting to the tables and enhance the decor.

Favors

Display small favors in organza pouches, such as bundles of Jordan almonds or after-dinner mints, in glass bowls grouped by the entrance and exit of your venue. For larger reception spaces, set up pedestals or small tables with a variety of favors throughout the area for guests to choose from. Mix the colors of your wedding palette instead of grouping favors by color for an added touch of decor.

Have guests build their own favors from a candy buffet featuring dozens of glass bowls filled with gummy candies, chocolates, classic candy store favorites and newer items. Use clear glass bowls for the candies and colored glass bowls to hold scoops, bags, ribbons and twist ties.

Kid's Tables

Use glass bowls to hold crayons, markers or colored pencils and small pads of paper or activity books at children's tables. If you've made special goody bags for younger guests, a large, brightly colored glass bowl filled with cellophane-wrapped goody bags will draw their attention and keep them occupied during the reception.

Offer kids their own candy buffet and favors in smaller versions, using small glass bowls and allotting enough candy for each child to make his own favor without overloading it with sugar. Scale down centerpieces and other decor for their table, or simply arrange fruit and vegetables in a shallow glass bowl as an edible centerpiece.

Other Uses

For outdoor weddings, fill bowls with birdseed, small bottles of sunblock, miniature fans or hand fans, handkerchiefs and other items to make guests more comfortable during the ceremony and reception. In cooler months, you may also include hand-warming packets, which are activated by shaking or snapping and can ward off the chill of a winter wedding.

Backyard or informal weddings featuring a potluck can employ glass bowls filled with punch, ice, chips, pretzels, popcorn, confetti and a host of other items to round out the casual, festive feeling. Line the insides of clear glass bowls with patterned paper or fabric napkins to add pops of color across a picnic table.
