Thanksgiving Table Table decorations For Children To Create

Pumpkin crafts work for Thanksgiving themes as well as Halloween themes.

Thanksgiving is a time for family and friends to gather, eat, reflect and celebrate. Nothing displays that warm family feeling like a kid's homemade Thanksgiving table centerpiece. The centerpiece craft helps get kids enthusiastic about the coming holiday, brings out their creativity and allows them to practice basic motor skills. Crafting the centerpiece is also cheaper than buying a decoration and far more valuable in terms of sentiment.

Thankful Pumpkins

Remind kids of all they have to be thankful for with a simple pumpkin centerpiece craft. Select several mini-pumpkins large enough for a child to write on. Pass out black markers and have the kids write something they're thankful for on half of the pumpkins. Use gold, red and yellow craft paint to cover the remaining pumpkins. Place the pumpkins, once dry, in a shallow basket lined with autumn leaves.

Napkin Turkeys

Empty toilet paper tubes, construction paper, markers, glue and napkins are all any child needs to create a turkey centerpiece for the Thanksgiving table. Cover a toilet paper tube with brown construction paper. Glue a yellow triangle toward the top of the tube for a beak. Draw a black dot for each eye and a red blob for the wattle. Pleat a cloth napkin and insert it into the top of the tube so that most of the fabric sticks out like a tail. Place several of the turkeys in the middle of the table for the centerpiece.

Pine Cone Turkeys

Put pine cones to good use, as a Thanksgiving table centerpiece, with a little help from felt, googly eyes, feathers and glue. Select one large, fat pine cone and one small pine cone. Place the large pine cone on its side to create the turkey body. Glue the wide end of the upright, small pine cone to the narrow end of the large pine cone to create the turkey head. Cut a small diamond from yellow felt, fold it in half and glue it to the turkey's head to create the beak. Glue two googly eyes above the beak and a teardrop-shaped piece of red felt under the beak. Glue colorful feathers to the back of the large pine cone to create the turkey's tail.

Decoupage Pumpkins

Make use of old magazines with a decoupage pumpkin centerpiece craft for kids. Cut out words and pictures associated with Thanksgiving, such as the word "family" and a picture of a turkey. Mix white glue and a little water in a bowl. Brush the cut-outs with the mixture and smooth the paper over the pumpkin. Repeat process until the entire pumpkin is covered with decorative paper. Let the glue dry completely and place the centerpiece in the middle of the table.
