Cat toys satisfy a feline's prey drive.
Cats enjoy playing with and chasing whimsical toys that are designed specifically for them. Although you can find cat toys at any pet supply store or supermarket, they can often cost a lot of money for a cheap product. One solution is to make your own cat toy using basic craft supplies such as pom poms. This will allow you to spend less money making a toy that may entertain your cat more effectively than a store-bought toy.
Instructions
1. Cut out two circles from cardboard of five inches in diameter each. Cut out a two-inch circle from the middle of each larger circle.
2. Hold the two cardboard rings with flat sides together and wrap the rings with yarn around and through the holes until the two stacked rings are thick with yarn.
3. Insert a pair of scissors in between the two stacked rings, and slowly cut the yarn around the entire perimeter. Slide a six-inch piece of yarn between the two rings and tie it into a knot around the cut yarn. Remove the cardboard rings and trim the excess yarn to finish the pom pom.
4. Heat up a hot glue gun by plugging it into a wall outlet for 10 minutes.
5. Squeeze a dime-sized dollop of hot glue onto the top of a quarter-inch wide wooden dowel. Press the pom pom onto the hot glue. Hold the pom pom in place for two minutes until the hot glue cools.
6. Squeeze pea-sized dollops of hot glue onto the pom pom and press jingle bells and pheasant feathers onto the hot glue. Hold the items in place for two minutes until the hot glue cools. You can now use the pom pom cat toy to have fun with your cat.
