Easy Diva Costume Ideas

Exaggerate your makeup when dressing like a diva.

Let your inner diva shine with a glamorous costume you can easily put together. Choose a celebrity to emulate or pull together a diva costume original from your favorite items. Center your diva costume around a particular color or theme, such as a pink diva, a rock-star diva, a retro, mod or cowgirl diva.

Diva Hair and Makeup

Create diva hair with hot rollers or a curling iron. Tease the top sections of your hair and use lots of hairspray and a headband to hold it in place. If you're designing a retro diva look like Madonna in the 80s, add a large hair bow. Colored hair spray or glitter spray are further options.

Wear a wig instead of your regular hair if you can't make it big and flashy on its own. Choose from a wide variety of styles, such as long and glamorous, short colored bobs or curly tresses. Another option is to use hair extensions or pin decorative hair pieces to your own hair.

Go heavy on the eye makeup. Use black or glitter eye liner to outline the eyes, pulling the corners out into a cat-eye shape. Apply layers of colored eyeshadow and sparkly lip gloss.

Diva Costume Clothing

Visit second-hand clothing shops for a variety of diva-worthy costume items. Look for fabric you love, knowing that you can cut a dress into a shorter style, if necessary, or cinch the waist with a colorful scarf. Depending upon the diva style you have in mind, look in the evening dress section, lingerie section or separates. For example, a Diana Ross, Cher or Beyonce look will need a flashy gown, while a Madonna costume can be a mix of black leather and a lace bodice. Take your cues from the style of the diva you want to emulate.

Diva Costume Accessories

Diva costume accessories include flashy jewelry, like large cocktail rings, chandelier earrings and necklaces. An armful of bracelets and long gloves are other options. Look for unusual shoes, platform sandals, clear plastic shoes or embellished sandals. Pair them with fishnet, colored or patterned stockings.

Make a wrap from a large scarf or a length of tulle, faux fur or iridescent material from the fabric store. Buy a feather boa at a craft store, along with large feathers and silk flowers to clip in your hair or attach to a hat.
