Use framed hieroglyphic prints to add a decorative element to your home.
Ancient Egypt evokes images of hot sands, gold ornaments and decadent luxury, and when you are interested in a new decorating scheme for your home, it can provide you with a great deal of inspiration. Consider what Egyptian-themed decorating ideas are best suited to your space and your home.
Lighten Things Up
The culture of ancient Egypt was based around the fertile area close to the Nile River, but the desert bordered the country on both sides. To reflect the heat and sand, paint your walls a pale beige or yellow. To prevent the room from looking flat, texture the walls with a sponge before the paint dries. Couple the pale walls with very light gauze curtains to create a breezy, warm weather effect. Place coarsely woven white rugs on the floors or hang them on the walls to open up the space.
Frame Hieroglyphics
The Egyptians had a very complicated written language that was conveyed in artistic hieroglyphics. Find a print of hieroglyphic writing, frame it and hang it up on your wall. Choose an elaborate gold frame for the purpose. Look for hieroglyphics that are printed on actual papyrus for an added textural effect. You can use several small prints placed randomly on the wall, or choose a large framed print and allow it to be the main focal point of the room.
Feathers
To create a sense of luxury and texture in your home, use feathers instead of flowers. A tall vase full of peacock feathers is an ideal choice for a corner that needs some color, and a tied bundle of fluttering ostrich feathers adds motion to an otherwise still room. Leave the feathers in vases or simply mount them to the walls using putty.
Cushions
Large cushions provide extra seating in the room while also giving you a chance to enhance the room's visual variety. Look for large brocade cushions or sew the covers yourself, using rich fabrics and tassels to decorate them. Match the cushions to wall hangings or rugs that use the same motifs. The cushions can be strewn around the floor to provide your guests with comfortable seating no matter where they happen to be in your home.
