Rodeo Birthday Suggestions For Boys

Let guests know to dress in Western attire.

This may be your first rodeo, but you'll want to do everything in your power make it spectacular. The rodeo theme is a fun birthday idea for any young cowboy. To set the scene, you'll need a rustic location, a few props and a little creativity. He will be delighted to see that you've thought of everything, from the Western-themed welcome sign to the lasso-shaped candles on his rodeo-inspired birthday cake.

Invitations

The invitations are your first point of contact with guests, so this is the time to let them know about the rodeo theme. Choose invitations with Western-themed items, such as a cowboy boot, lasso or a bucking steed. Create the invitations on your own with a word processing program and stock images from Sxc.hu or Free Clipart. One benefit to creating your own invitations is that you can get creative with the wording. Play around with different old West expressions to create a fitting invitation. Here is one example: "Calling all cowpokes! Mosey on over at high noon for a big birthday fandango! Put on your best Western duds, and prepare for a grand ol' time!"

Brown Bag Vests

The cowboys' outfits won't be complete without a proper rodeo vest, so make this part of the birthday fun. Gather enough brown paper bags (one for each kid) and cut out the sides. Lay the bag flat on the table and cut the top-facing side vertically, starting from the bag opening. To make a neck opening, cut a 6-inch circle at the bag's bottom, starting from where your first cut ended. This can be done well before the part begins. At the party, the kids will decorate their brown bag vests with paint, crayons and feathers. You can also cut a star-shaped badge for each child out of cardstock. The children can each write their name on a badge and glue it to their vest.

Loot Bags

When it is time for the rodeo to come to an end, you won't want to send the cowboys and girls away empty handed. Use brown paper lunch bags to hold the goodies they will take along as they ride into the sunset. To prepare, draw one large dollar sign with red marker on each bag. Once the bags are filled with treats, tie them closed with a simple white or brown string. Finish them off with star-badges, similar to those used for the vests.
