Children'S Transformation Parties

Throughout time one thing hasn't changed about little girls; they love playing dressup. Why not turn this tradition into an event that everyone can enjoy? The makeover party theme can be used for birthdays or just as a fun get-together for friends. It can be held in a home or at a beauty salon. With the proper preparation, this type of affair doesn't take much effort or expense for the hostess, yet it is a lot of fun for future fashionistas.

Hair

The party hostess can hire a stylist or enlist a friend to help create fancy and unusual hairstyles for the attendees. A curling iron can create ringlets to cascade down the back or to secure on top with bobby pins for a dramatic updo. Use pretty hair clips and bows for the younger girls and funky pony tails and braids with older girls.

Check with the local cosmetology school to see if a student would be willing to work the party at a discounted rate.

Makeup

Stock a makeup station with a large mirror, good lighting and an assortment of makeup. For the younger girls, use very little makeup. An adult can apply light pink nail polish and light pink or clear lip gloss. Older girls may like to experiment with more colors and maybe even a bit of glitter.

Craft

While some girls are at the hair and makeup stations, others can engage in a craft. Crowns and wands are fun and easy to make. Craft supply stores carry peel and stick foam sets. Guests can add jewels and glitter to personalize their creation.

Clothes

Ideally, the hostess has several costumes or dresses for the girls to choose from. Gather fun accessories like feather boas and fancy shoes too. Second hand and vintage clothing stores are good sources for fancy duds. Many girls in the 4- to 6-year-old age range have princess costumes stashed in their closets that they could bring to wear. Older girls might like to swap dresses with each other.

Fashion Show

After the makeovers are complete, it's time for the highlight of the party--the fashion show. Allow each girl to walk down a hallway or across the room to strut her stuff. It's a good idea to practice first, and show the girls how to pose and twirl at the end of the runway. Turn on a CD of lively music to accompany them such as Hannah Montana or other upbeat pop music. Parents should be on hand to take photos and cheer as each girl shows off her new look.

Party favors

If party favors are desired, give each girl a little purse filled with hair bows, lip-gloss and other cute trinkets.
