Easytomake Costumes For Women

With a little creativity, you can turn a mop head into a hula skirt.

Easy-to-make costumes for girls aren't just limited to Halloween anymore. Whether your little girl needs a costume for a school play, a themed birthday party or even just to play dress up, it always helps to have a few costume ideas in your back pocket. The good news is that with a little creativity and some supplies you can get from your local store, you can have an easy-to-make costume done tonight.

Cat Costume

A cat costume is an easy-to-make costume that is perfect for your little girl. You can craft the ears by shaping pipe cleaners into triangular cat ear shapes, using different colors for the inner and outer ear parts. Attach the ears to a headband by wrapping the ends of the stems around the headband. Craft the tail by stuffing paper tubes into a long sock. Stuff the ends of the sock into the tube at the top and bottom and adorn with pieces of a feather boa. After preparing the accessories, dress the child in a leotard and leggings and safety pin the tail to the back. Finish off the cat costume with cat-inspired face paint.

Paper Doll

For centuries, little girls have loved playing with paper dolls. Turn your little girl into a life-size paper doll with some paint and a couple sheets of poster board. Trace an item of clothing --- a dress works best --- onto the poster board. Draw a few rectangle tabs on the edges like you see on paper dolls. Paint the poster board and add embellishments as desired. Get creative! Make sure to leave the tabs white, though. Cut out along the traced line. Staple elastic onto the cutout for shoulder straps and also on the waist to finish off the costume.

Ballerina Costume

Turn your little girl into a ballerina with a quick-to-make costume that doesn't require any sewing. Use three pretty-colored garbage bags pulled snugly. Join the drawstrings together to form a poofed skirt that will fit around your child's waist. Trim the bottoms of the bags in a zigzag pattern. You can also fashion a headpiece by using two trash bags and joining them as you did for the skirt. Cut the bottoms very short in a zigzag pattern and fluff. Attach the headpiece to the child's hair with bobby pins. Have the child dress in the leotard and tights and wear the skirt over them. Finish this costume with pretty shoes or slippers.

Hula Dancer

A hula dancer costume is an easy-to-make costumes for girls, albeit with a tropical twist. Cut two mop heads down the center seam to make four panels that are laid side by side. Next, cut a piece of cloth ribbon the length of the panels, plus 2 inches on either side. Fold the mop edges over the ribbon and hot glue them into place. Tie the skirt onto the child with excess ribbon. To make a headband, cut ribbon that will fit around the child's head. Attach gift bows all along the ribbon. Follow the same procedures to make a matching bracelet and lei. For a decorative detail, adorn flip flops with a large gift bow on the top of each strap.
