Summer time Focal point Ideas

Use a conch seashell as a flower vase for a centerpiece.

Show off your artistic side by creating the perfect summer centerpiece for your dining, patio or picnic table. Centerpieces create a focal point for your table. With a few ideas, your imagination and a quick trip to your local retail and craft store, you can create a centerpiece that your guests will be talking about.

Fresh Fruit

Make a fresh fruit centerpiece using a watermelon and other fresh fruits, such as pineapples, grapes, cherries, apples and strawberries. Cut the watermelon in half and scoop out the watermelon into chunks or use an ice cream scoop to make watermelon balls to put back in the watermelon. Add the other fresh fruits and mix well. Use this as a centerpiece, as well as part of the menu.

If you want to get more creative, cut the watermelon in the shape of a basket with a handle. Use a pencil to draw on the watermelon where to cut. Cut wavy shapes on the side of the watermelon for more of a decorative look.

Seashells

Use seashells, such as a large conch shell, for a summer centerpiece. Place artificial flowers such as daises or sunflowers in the conch, and place it on the table. Add greenery around the base of the seashells for more decoration and color. You can also add smaller seashells around the base of the conch.

Candy

For a bright and colorful centerpiece, go with candy. Purchase several bright-colored lollipops and a bag of small colorful candies, such as gumballs, conversation hearts, gumdrops or jawbreakers. Fill a white, metal sand pail with the small candies, and stick the lollipops in the candy to get them to stand up. Spread small, wrapped candies around the base of the sand pail for added interest. This also makes for an edible centerpiece at the end of the event.

Patriotic

Make a patriotic centerpiece out of small stick flags, marbles or stones (red, white and blue) and a tall glass vase. Fill the vase with the red, white and blue stones or marbles. Stick the flags into the stones so they will stand up. Add patriotic ribbons or wire garland for more decoration. Place a few red, white and blue glass votive candles around the base of the vase, and light them for a soft glow.
