Thanksgiving Floral Focal point Ideas

Chrysanthemums, castor leaves and mini gourds can all become beautiful Thanksgiving centerpieces.

Thanksgiving is one of several family and community celebrations that inspire hosts to take special care to set a beautiful, welcoming table. Typically incorporating fall's vivid reds, bright oranges and subtle browns, Thanksgiving tables enhance the fireside warmth that will enfold you through the coming winter. Fall-blooming flowers such as chrysanthemum and goldenrod all complement Thanksgiving centerpieces when combined with fall foliage.

Fall Flower Turkey

Tilt a pot of copper-toned chrysanthemums on its side, supported by a 2-inch bed of sand in a turkey platter, to form the tail feathers for this centerpiece. Cut brown felt or craft foam into 4-inch, 6-inch and 8-inch-long feather shapes, which you will overlap to cover the flower pot until it resembles a turkey body. A hacksaw works well to notch the pot so that you can attach a turkey-head profile cut from red craft foam. Finish your turkey floral centerpiece with glued-on googly eyes.

Marigolds and Castor Leaves

Arrange dwarf orange marigolds, castor leaves and goldenrod in an open-top glass block filled with medium-sized, round river gravel for a burst of red, gold and green. The red, star-shaped leaves and spiky, red seed pods of the castor plant give this arrangement a high degree of visual drama. The contrasting yellow goldenrod spikes complement the compact, orange marigolds. Created by Farm Girl Flower & Garden Shop owner, Lauri L. White, this arrangement costs little more than the time it takes to cut and position the flowers.

Champagne and Candles

Mayweddi Yeo, owner of the Free Wedding Flower Guides website, places mini orange pumpkins and pine cones under upside-down champagne flutes, wine glasses or brandy snifters. Arranged on a mirror and topped with orange votive and pillar candles, this centerpiece lights up the entire room.

Easy as...Cake

Arrange three cake stands of decreasing diameter on top of one another to make this centerpiece by Southern Living, featured by the My Home Ideas website. Cover each plate with maple, oak or sycamore leaves. Citrus fruits and fall flowers, such as marigolds and chrysanthemums in gold, orange and copper, complete the elegant yet simple look. Substitute a variety of mini gourds for the citrus fruit for an even more authentic fall ambiance.
