Neon Promenade Styles

Prom is a special event in a young person's life.

Neon lights bring a special intrigue to a venue. A prom committee looking for an exciting prom theme should consider a neon prom. Bright lights and bright colors will bring an electrifying excitement to the event. To make the biggest impact with a neon party, use a darkened venue. But keep safety foremost in your mind when planning a prom. Make sure that even in a darkened room there is still ample light for guests to move around without bumping into things or stumbling. Also be cautious as to how and where you hang lights so as not to create a fire hazard.

80s Prom Theme

Bring on the neon for a 1980s prom. The 1980s was full of big hair and bright neon clothing. Dim the lights to expose glow in the dark messages written on posters around the room. Write messages such as "Radical, Dude!" "Fer Sure" and other 1980s catch phrases in neon colored, glow-in-the-dark paint or markers. Use neon-colored balloons and streamers and bring the neon theme to table linens, too. Leave Rubik's Cubes on tables around the room so guests can play during lulls in the action. Play 1980s dance music and play 1980 music videos and television shows on TVs around the room.

Futuristic

"The Future's So Bright, I Gotta Wear Shades" is a song by the group Timbuk 3. This song is also a good theme for a prom. High school students have so much of their life ahead of them and many are looking to the future with hope and anticipation. Incorporate this youthful enthusiasm into a prom theme. Use neon light to create an electrifying atmosphere. Add spaceship and robot decorations. Use neon lights around the top edges of the walls of the party venue to bring a neon hue to the walls. Make a food table out of glass blocks and back-light it with neon to create a glowing table. Put glow-in-the-dark stars on floors, ceilings and walls and ask students to write what they'll be doing in 20 years on a large poster.

Las Vegas

Las Vegas is full of neon lights and makes for an exciting prom theme. Create large playing cards out of poster board to hang on the walls. Square white boxes (paint boxes white if you can't find white boxes) can be made into dice by adding black dots. Use lots of neon lights around the party venue to help bring a touch of Vegas to the event. Hang neon lights from the ceiling and use them against walls to help bring a glow to the room. Vegas is known for its bright lights, so incorporate a lot of lights into the prom to bring the Vegas theme to life.

Glow in the Dark

Create a Glow in the Dark prom that incorporates neon lights. Use neon lights around and behind tables, on walls, around doorways and on the ceiling. Decorate the walls, ceiling and floor with glow-in-the-dark stars and other glow-in-the-dark items that can be purchased at dollar or party stores. Bright neon colored streamers and balloons will add a festive touch. Also include white balloons and incorporate a few black lights into the room for a truly glowing experience.
