Steps To Make A three dimensional Handmade Bird Necklace

Seed beads are small and round, making them ideal for bird necklaces.

While bird necklaces can symbolize many things, including power, adventure and grace, three-dimensional bird necklaces attract more attention because they stand out away from the wearer's neck. Create a bird necklace that resembles your favorite bird using bendable wire and beads in the color of the bird's feathers, or get creative and use other colors.

Instructions

1. Reduce the size of the bird picture by photocopying and reducing the size until it is the same size you want your necklace.

2. Cut wire to form the top of the bird's body, beginning at the top of its beak all the way to the point of its tail feathers. Do the same for the bottom of the bird's body, beginning from the bottom of the beak to the bottom of the tail feathers.

3. Thread beads onto the two wires in colors that match the bird. A bald eagle, for example, would have white beads at its head and black beads on its body. Twist the ends of the two wires together with the pliers, making the twists tight and the ends flush with the rest of the wire. Reshape the wire if it lost its bird shape.

4. Attach two wires to represent the bird's wings across the back of the bird, twisting them around the top wire twice to secure them. Space them to represent the width of the bird's wings, in proportion to the rest of its body. Squeeze them tight with the pliers so they don't rotate. Add beads along the wings, then twist the ends together with the pliers.

5. Fill in the head and the body with curved wires threaded with beads in appropriate colors. Twist the curved wires to the top wire and the bottom wire of the bird. Repeat this on both sides of the bird, making it three-dimensional.

6. Fill in the wings with straight pieces of wire threaded with beads. Twist the ends of the wire to the front and back of the wings.

7. Bend a 1-inch piece of wire to form a loop, then twist the ends around the wire in the middle of the bird's back. Thread the necklace through this loop.
