How You Can Fresh paint Clay Pottery Having A Brush Using Glazes

Adding a layer of glaze to your clay pot will make it shine.

Making a clay pot or sculpture is a rewarding task in itself. Adding a layer of glaze to it will enhance the piece's finished look as well as protect it and make it water-resistant.

Instructions

1. Wipe down your clay piece, such as a pot or sculpture, with soapy water and clean rags. Wipe away any debris or dirt. Clean any piece of the pot that is to be painted or glazed, including handles or covers. Let the pot dry completely.

2. Mix two parts of the clear glaze and one part paint with either a paintbrush or mixing rod within the mixing bowl. Alter the combination if you want darker or lighter paint.

3. Dip your brush (a fan brush will present the most uniform covering of glaze) into the glaze and cover the pot. Apply the glaze in a horizontal direction---side to side, not up and down---to heighten the authentic look of your piece.

4. Wipe away any excess glaze on the bottom of the piece or on the rims or sides with a clean rag. Allow the first layer of glaze to dry. This may take five to 10 hours.

5. Apply a second and third layer of glaze to your pot to further achieve the color and look you want. Allow each coat to dry before moving on to the next one.

6. Use a new fan brush to apply a layer of clear glaze to the outside of the pot. This will further protect it from water and scratches. Let the clay piece dry and clean your brushes with warm, soapy water to get the glaze and paint off them.
