Sculpting Indian heads is a simple art
Making an Indian head out of clay is one of the simplest and easiest art projects that you can do. Different types of clay are readily available at arts and crafts stores, and the other basic tools and equipment you will need to make an Indian head out of clay are basic household items that you might already have on hand. There are a wide variety of books and reference materials online and at your local public library for additional clay art sculpture projects. Once you finish your first Indian head, you will likely feel encouraged to create additional clay art sculpture works.

Clay Sculpture
1. Remove the oven-bake clay from its plastic sheath and box. Knead the clay until you get it soft. Separate a large portion of the oven-baked clay for the Indian head's base, a portion of clay for the Indian head itself, and a medium-to-small portion for the Indian head's facial features and decorative ornaments.
2. Form a base for the Indian head to sit on, such as a neck and shoulders, out of the clay.
3. Form the head shape for the Indian head itself out of the separate portion of clay. If you want to make an Indian head with headdress, it is best to include the headdress feather part with the Indian head shape itself rather than trying to add on each feather later on.
4. Press in the areas on the Indian head face where the eyes and mouth will be. Use a toothpick or household butter knife if you need help to work out a precise area for the eyes and mouth, then smooth those areas out with a cotton swab. Form the nose by pushing inward from the eye sockets and up from the mouth and lip section on the Indian head clay piece.
5. Form adornment decorations for the Indian head, such as jewelry neck-wear, earrings, and other items out of the remaining clay portion that you have left. Use a toothpick to make any fine line details in the clay Indian head that you desire.
6. Pre-heat an oven per the directions on the oven bake clay box, and when the oven temperature is set, insert the clay Indian head to bake. Set the timer. When the timer goes off, carefully remove the clay Indian head from the oven and let it sit in a safe place to cool and dry.
