Redecorating a teen's bedroom can be a struggle, particularly if you and your teenager can't seem to agree on a style for the space. There are several themes you can consider that will please both you and your teen, from rock style or retro to bursts of color or minimalistic.
Playful Color
Bright bursts of color scream youth and can make a charming theme for a teen's room. Consider using bright solid colors on the duvet, walls, rug and accessories like lamps. Contrasting colors will stand out -- pairing orange with blue or purple with yellow. Combine some of your teen's favorite colors to make a bold statement.
Music Room
If your teen is a music fan, decorate a room around that hobby. If your teen likes pop music, decorate with a pop flair using rhinestones, feathers and colors like silver, pink and purple. If your teen enjoys rock music, decorate in colors like green, black and silver and use vintage '50s icons like Elvis on the wall pictures and duvet.
Retro
A retro-looking room can be funky and fun with minimal effort. Add some '70s style accessories to your teen's room, like shag carpets, a bean bag chair and a lava lamp. You can also replace closet doors with a hanging bead door, and hang a disco ball in the center of the room.
Minimal
A minimalistic room is chic and modern, and may appeal to the taste's of artsy teens. Minimal rooms are usually done in one color, like white or blue. Furniture lines are clean and streamlined, with a boxy look to them. Find inexpensive minimalistic furniture at big box stores like Ikea or Target.
