Construction paper crafts are tried and true and a good activity for anyone stuck inside on a rainy day. Try this craft to create a way to display a fun family memory or beloved pet.
Instructions
Make a Construction Paper Photo Frame
1. Decide on the shape and size of your frame. For a basic frame, use a ruler and pencil to trace a rectangle on the mat board. Try making a heart-shaped frame, or even one that looks like a family tree for a family photo display.
2. Use an craft knife to cut the shape out carefully. Adults should not allow children to complete this step alone or with scissors, which don't cut mat board well.
3. Turn the mat board over onto a piece of construction paper. Trace the shape on the construction paper, then use scissors to cut it out.
4. Choose a space or spaces for the pictures to go. Use the craft knife to cut out the space after you've measured and traced it.
5. Decorate the paper! Try gluing on decorative fabrics and papers, ribbons or even parts of other drawings to give the project a personal flair. Get inspired at the Craft Library Web site. If you choose to add a figurine, leave space for it at the bottom part of the project and glue it on after you've attached the paper to the mat board.
6. Cut out squares of construction paper that are slightly larger than the holes made for the pictures. Tape the left, right and bottom edges, but leave the top open so the photo can slide in.
7. Line up the paper to the mat board and glue it on. If you accidentally cut the paper too short, glue on a ribbon trim around your project.
8. Cut out a rectangle from the mat board. Bend a small part of it and glue that tab to the back of the picture frame so that the frame can stand up on its own.
