Steps To Make A Construction Paper Hands Poultry

Doing crafts with your kids is a great bonding activity.

Most moms and dads have their children's photographs, school papers and craft projects posted on the refrigerator or a bulletin board. Whenever a child makes something with her handprint or footprint, it's a strong bet the project ends up a keepsake for many years. Handprint turkeys made from construction paper are a favorite of parents every fall, precisely because they capture a moment in time when a child's hand was small.

Instructions

1. Ask your child to stand on a piece of brown construction paper with her shoe on. Trace around the foot with a pencil and cut out the shape along the line you drew.

2. Trace both your child's right and left hands on the red, yellow and orange construction paper, so you have three sets of handprints. Cut out the handprints. You can also cut out more hands to create more "feathers."

3. Turn the footprint upside down and glue the handprints to the upper third of the turkey, so the fingers fan outward, creating the turkey feathers.

4. Turn the footprint over and glue googly eyes at the top of the footprint (the ankle area). If you don't have googly eyes, your child can draw the turkey's eyes.

5. Cut a small yellow triangle out of yellow construction paper and a red, squiggly waddle out of red construction paper.

6. Turn the yellow triangle upside down and glue it on the footprint below the eyes to make the beak, then glue the red waddle below the beak.
