Boys Fifth Birthday Celebration Ideas

Five-year-old boys enjoy adventurous activities to keep them occupied at a birthday party

Most 5-year-old boys have active imaginations and interests that are ideal for a themed birthday party. Using this array of interests, you can design a birthday party for your 5-year-old boy that ranges from Toy Story to Trains or Hot Wheels to heroes, giving him a party that he will remember for years to come.

Trains

Decorate with train-themed balloons and black and red streamers. Set up a remote controlled train track on a table in the party room for the birthday boy and his guests to play with during the celebration. Provide train engineer caps for the party guests to wear during the party and to take home with them afterward. A Thomas the Train marathon on DVD, along with cake and ice cream will add to the event.

Big Top Circus

Hire a clown or dress up like one yourself. Hang colorful balloons and streamers, serve popcorn, roasted peanuts and snow cones along with cake and ice cream. Set up a game tent outside and arrange for activities you might find at a circus, such as knocking down cans with bean bags, throwing safety darts at a target, and fishing from a small tub full of water with a magnet.

Cowboys and Indians

Decorate the party room with western gear, such as a saddle, toy six shooters, plastic tomahawks and play bows and arrows. Provide guests with a choice of cowboy hat or Indian feather headband. Allow the guests to drink from canteens. After the cake and ice cream, take the guests outside and break the teams into cowboys and Indians, set up a wagon train perimeter, and let the boys play cowboys and Indians. Sheriff's badges, cowboy hats, and a holster and six shooter can be purchased at discount dollar stores for party favors, along with miniature cowboy and Indian figures you can use to help enhance the atmosphere of the Old West.

Sea Exploration

Arrange for an underwater excursion. Set up a pool that isn't too deep and will give party guests plenty of room to explore. Place inflatable sea animals in the pool and drop party favors into the water for the guests to find. Provide swimming goggles and snorkels to add to the fun. Purchase a shark-shaped cake and serve blue soft drinks to help enhance the theme.

Hot Rods and Racing

Set up a race track for mini cars for guests to play with. Serve a racing car cake and decorate the party room with racing stripe balloons and streamers. Hand out toy cars as party favors and let the boys play a race car video game.
