Designing For Any Wedding With Small Lights

Mini white lights wrapped around a wire trap

Mini lights aren't just for Christmas. You can decorate for your wedding with mini lights. Mini lights come in a variety of colors and lengths, and you can find sets that run on either electricity or batteries. Decorating with mini lights is easy and inexpensive way to add ambience to your wedding.

Entrance

Decorating the exterior of your reception venue with mini lights is a great way to create a pretty entrance for your guest, and also helps provide light if they need to step outside. If the there are pillars, wrap the lights around them. You can also intertwine mini lights in bushes or small trees that line the path to the door, or drape them in tree branches near the entrance to your reception site. If the walkway to the doorway isn't too long, you can also line each side with mini lights. This will make it easier for your guests to see in the dark, and it will create a nice effect.

Tables

A popular wedding décor idea is using mini lights and organza around tables and hearths. To create this look, buy a roll of white wire and wrap it with organza material, then weave the mini lights around the organza. For a more muted lighting effect, you can add another layer of organza over the lights. Use this combination to line the bridal party table, the cake table, the gift table and even windowsills and hearths.

Centerpieces

Mini lights can also be used as centerpieces and other table arrangements. One way is to remove the label from an empty wine bottle and insert battery-operated mini lights into the bottle. If you use a tinted bottle, the lights will create a pretty colored glow on the table. You can even insert a flower or decorative branch into the bottle. Twisted willow, white birch, mitsumata branches and other types of branches, flowers, and foliage available at places like NettletonHollow.com work well. You can also use lights in other types of glassware, such as tall, clear vases, bowls and decanters. Add colored glass rocks or sheer, colored fabric to create a beautiful glow for your tables. Play with the lights and their effect on materials and colors, and you will arrive at a creative centerpiece.

Walls

Use mini lights on the walls and ceilings of your venue. If you're having an indoor event, drape the mini lights across the ceiling from each corner, crossing in the center to create a starburst pattern in the middle of the room. You can also line the circumference of the room by stringing lights where the ceiling hits the wall.

If your event is outdoors, decorating for your wedding with mini lights is ideal under a white tent. String the the lights across the ceiling in the same way you would for an indoor event, or line the circumference of the room. You can also wrap the lights around the legs of the tent in each corner. The ambience of the gauzy glow of the mini lights outdoors is great for a wedding.
