Silk fans are ideal for keeping cool as they are lightweight and, therefore, easy to use. Yet they create a nice breeze as well. According to the University of Wisconsin La Crosse, fans have been used by the Chinese to keep cool in summer for over 3,000 years. They are also used as artistic props in plays and even home décor. Create your own silk fan with only a few household items.
Instructions
1. Load the hot glue gun and allow it to heat. Place the glue gun on a paper towel to catch any drips.
2. Cut off the top part of the hanger with a pair of wire nippers.
3. Shape the hanger by bending it so that one side of the wire is straight and the remainder of the wire curves upward from the straight edge to create a semicircle.
4. Place the 8x26-inch piece of silk over the wire, stretching it tightly over the form of the wire. The wire simply serves as the frame for the fan upon which the silk is stretched and secured.
5. Fold the extra silk that surrounds all sides over the wire, and use the hot glue gun to glue it to the back of the silk fan. Trim off the excess.
