Robin Hood costumes are quite commonly found in costume shops, but it's easy to make better costumes for a lot less money. All you need is a little creativity and a few simple supplies.
Familiarize Yourself With Robin Hood
Before you start planning a Robin Hood costume, get a visual. Go to the big costume shop websites and check out the images of commercial Robin Hood costumes. Buycostumes.com has examples for both men and women.
Get to Work
Start with an oversize green T-shirt and a pair of brown fleece sweat pants, available at most big discount chains like Wal-Mart and Target. Get the shirt at least two sizes over what you normally wear, and get the pants one size smaller, because you want them to look like tights. If you like, cut the T-shirt six inches down from the front collar and lace up with a strip of leather from a crafts store. Get an old black belt and cinch the belt around your middle, or use a wide strip of leather from a crafts store.
Buy a rectangular sheet of green felt from a craft store and fold it as though you are making a paper boat to create Robin Hood's trademark green triangular hat. Stick a big feather into the top and you're done.
For shoes, any pair of black shoes will do, although you might want to hit a few thrift stores to see if you can find the old pointy-toed style. With a sheet of black felt, create boot covers and attach them to your shoes.
Accessorize your ensemble with a bow-and-arrow set. You can either buy a child's set (found at discount stores) or make your own. For the bow, get a curved stick--you should be able to find one at any public beach or park--and tie a black string from one end to the other. For arrows, get a box of No. 2 pencils and spray paint them black or silver. And for a quiver, use the box from a regular-size container of oatmeal and spray paint it gold.
