Chic Halloween Wedding Ideas

Avoid Halloween cliches to keep your wedding chic.

A seasonal wedding is the perfect opportunity for fantasy and creativity, but if you want your Halloween wedding to be chic and not kitschy, the most important rule to remember may be that of simplicity. Adding too many Halloween elements will leave your wedding looking more like a children's costume party and less like an elegant event. You may get the best results by planning the wedding you really want, then including one or two Halloween elements.

Go Victorian

Instead of cheeky costumes or over-the-top Gothic touches, a Halloween wedding can remain chic with a nod to Victorian style. Hairstyles, clothing and colors can all be inspired from Victorian design. The bride and her attendants can sport Victorian-inspired updos and the entire wedding party can wear outfits trimmed in velvet or made in dark shades of navy or purple. Accessories like cameo necklaces, watch fobs, capes and shawls will add the right degree of Halloween dress-up without looking too much like a costume.

Go Dramatic

The addition of dark, dramatic makeup for the bride and her attendants and bold decorations will enhance a Halloween theme with chic style. A single, glittered pumpkin makes a inexpensive but high-impact centerpiece, and bouquets of dark red flowers with plumes of black feathers add of drama. For the groom and his attendants, boutonnieres made from a single flower surrounded by black feathers will serve as a compliment to the ladies' arrangements. Nothing adds drama to a room like dozens of flickering candles; include as many as possible in the wedding venue as well as the reception. Even the wedding cake can add drama to your event. Cutting into a richly colored red velvet or carrot cake is a great finishing touch.

Go Seasonal

Apples, pumpkins and candy are culinary favorites during the Halloween season. Apple juice-based drinks, both alcoholic and non-alcoholic, served with chocolate licorice swizzle sticks is one idea for a seasonal beverage. Pumpkin tarts, pumpkin butter or foods topped with toasted pumpkin seeds are easy to come by during the fall season. Caramel apples, wrapped in cellophane and tied with a festive ribbon make great favors for your guests, or fill dressy gold gifts bags with a variety of fine chocolates. Many fall flowers can enhance your theme without screaming Halloween. Day lilies in light shades of orange or orange-hued roses look great mixed with fall leaves and other flowers.

Go Black

Using black accents throughout your wedding attire and decorations is both chic and in keeping with a Halloween theme. The groom and groomsmen can wear black tuxedos and the brides attendants can wear elegant black evening dresses, while the bride herself wears a velvet or silk black sash around the waist of her otherwise traditional dress. Black table clothes, a black and white decorated cake, black vases to hold centerpieces or black metal candle holders are a few ideas that can be incorporated into reception plan.
