Dress your child up as a bug or butterfly.
Halloween costumes don't always have to be creepy or terrifying. Try dressing up a little differently next Halloween by giving a child a funny costume. Humorous costumes are cute for young children and can make the holiday seem more wholesome. Try your hand at making these costumes or seek them at a costume retailer.
Fried Egg
A fried egg costume can be a funny and quirky choice for a child's costume. To make it you will need to cut a large piece of thick white foam into the shape of a fried egg white. Paint a large plastic mixing bowl bright yellow and glue it onto the foam to mimic the yolk. To attach the egg, affix some thick ribbon or elastic to the back of the costume so that the ribbon or elastic can be tied diagonally.
Bugs
Dressing a child up as a bug or butterfly can be a cute and funny idea. There are different ways you could go with a bug costume. Start simple by fitting costume antennae and big eyes to a beanie hat. Make a split cape for bug wings. For a butterfly costume, replace the cape with cardboard butterfly wings painted to look pretty and colorful.
Fashion Police
A fashion police costume is a funny take on a common saying. Dress the child up in a police costume, including a hat and badge. Then add a feather boa, glitzy makeup, bright leg warmers or other fashion items. This is one costume that could be thrown together at the last minute, if necessary.
Hot Air Balloonist
A hot air balloonist costume is one sure to turn a few heads. Not too many items are required either. Get a large plant basket and remove the bottom. Have the child stand inside the basket and fix it to him or her with a pair of suspenders. Tape six helium-filled balloons to the inside of the basket with strong tape. This costume is light, too, so that even small children can wear it.
